Rosedale Elementary School is a JK to Grade Five school, located in the east end of Hamilton, near the Kenilworth access. The building was originally built in 1953, and enrollment hovers around just under 300 students. Due to the age and condition of the school, Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board contracted Ritestart to perform various interior and exterior renovations.
Project scope involved merging/converting the existing art and resource rooms into two full-size classrooms, as well as renovating an existing classroom and learning commons area to create new work rooms, storage rooms, and change rooms. Interior works involved both masonry and steel frame partitions, VCT flooring, millwork, and complete new mechanical and electrical. As part of the mechanical scope we were required to access the crawlspace beneath the work area, which contained asbestos and was classified as a confined space; Type 2 abatement was required within the crawlspace, as well as for the existing flooring in affected rooms. Exterior work included window infills as well as the renovation to existing playground that comprised of a new asphalt play surface, landscaping and a shade structure. Their + Curran Architects Inc. acted as the consultant on this project.
