Durham College officially opened the Centre for Craft Brewing Innovation (CCBI) in 2018, at their Whitby campus (1610 Champlain Avenue, Whitby). As part of this new endeavor, they needed to build a Brew Line and Brew Lab. RITESTART was able to assist by renovating an existing space used as a hotel suite lab, washroom and office, and converting it into the new Brew Line and Brew Lab.

We performed demolition in the existing spaces and converted them into a single space of approximately 500 square feet. The brew line and brew lab were briefly operating in two different locations, and we were able to consolidate to this single location.

New sloping epoxy flooring was installed throughout the space, complete with vinyl clad walls. We also added a complete glass entrance system with an automatic sliding door. RITESTART worked with an experienced microbiologist and brewmaster to ensure that the specialized mechanical and electrical equipment were installed correctly, and that the space was operating effectively before project closeout. The new CCBI offers craft brewers access to expertise and state-of-the-art technology, as well as micro-analytical and research services. Weinstein Taylor & Associates was the consultant on this project.
