Contracted by the City of Brantford, RITESTART successfully executed the replacement of outdated and mission-critical backup power systems at the Tollgate Reservoir and Pumping Station—a vital facility responsible for ensuring reliable water distribution and pressure management across significant portions of the municipal water network.

This project involved the full-scale upgrade and installation of a new, high-capacity standby generator system designed to provide comprehensive, dependable emergency power support during outages or grid failures, safeguarding uninterrupted operations at this essential public utility asset.

To accommodate the upgraded generator and associated equipment, RITESTART undertook extensive site preparation and civil works, including:

  • Construction of a robust new exterior concrete pad engineered to support heavy equipment loads, complete with integrated retaining walls for structural stability and safety.
  • Installation of durable galvanized steel handrails to meet rigorous safety and accessibility standards.
  • Erection of a purpose-built sound-attenuating barrier partition around the perimeter to minimize operational noise impacts on the surrounding community and comply with municipal environmental regulations.
  • Provision and integration of all required electrical infrastructure, encompassing switchgear, cabling, transfer switches, and connection points to ensure seamless, code-compliant integration with the existing facility systems.

Recognizing the critical importance of the pumping station—where any power disruption could compromise water supply reliability to thousands of residents and businesses—RITESTART implemented stringent continuity measures throughout the project. A fully redundant temporary generator was supplied, rigorously tested, and maintained on constant standby readiness. This allowed for a carefully coordinated, zero-downtime switchover process, during which the new permanent generator was brought online while the temporary unit seamlessly bridged any transitional power needs.

The result was a modernized, resilient backup power solution that enhances the long-term reliability and operational redundancy of the Tollgate facility, all completed with minimal risk to public services and full adherence to safety, environmental, and engineering standards.
