Ritestart Limited served as General Contractor for the replacement of the primary air handling and cooling systems at Wesburn Manor, an active long-term care home operated by the City of Toronto.
The project involved replacing Air Handling Units AHU-1, 2, 3, 4 and 6 with new units, converting the cooling coil in AHU-5 from DX to chilled glycol, and replacing the existing condensing units with new air-source chillers. The work also included associated demolition, ductwork and hydronic piping modifications, electrical upgrades, controls integration, and commissioning.
A critical requirement of the project was maintaining continuous cooling and heating for residents throughout construction. Temporary HVAC systems were provided and carefully managed while the permanent mechanical systems were taken offline and replaced, ensuring indoor air quality and temperature control were maintained in the occupied facility at all times.
All work was carefully phased and coordinated within the operating long-term care environment to minimize disruption to residents and staff. The completed upgrades deliver improved reliability, energy efficiency, and climate control for the home.
